ABOUT ABOUT

EVE, ABSINTHE, ALICE - A world premiere by Oliver Caplan

Three legendary women explore the boundaries of curiosity and temptation with magic portals that open gateways to concurrent worlds. Eve – from the Bible – tastes a forbidden fruit, awakening a world of knowledge. Looking back, she is haunted by blame for mankind’s troubles beyond the Garden of Eden. The Absinthe Drinker – from the painting by Edgar Degas – escapes from despondency by imbibing the infamous green hallucinogenic. She sits in a Parisian cafe, staring vacantly. Finally, Alice – from the beloved novel by Lewis Carroll – travels through a rabbit hole to the nonsensical realm of Wonderland. Through her quizzical journey, she challenges societal expectations and imparts an important lesson on the beauty and power of imagination.

Other great women on the program include Emily Dickinson, Emma Lazarus, Sara Teasdale, and Gwyneth Walker.
