The New Hampshire Master Chorale performs Leonard Bernstein’s “Mass” in Concord (Capital Commons Garage) on June 21st and Plymouth (Plymouth Congregational Church) on June 22nd.
Commissioned by Jacqueline Kennedy Onassis for the dedication of the John F. Kennedy Center, Leonard Bernstein’s Mass challenges, questions, and ultimately reaffirms faith in God. Blending rock, musical theatre, and classical styles, the New Hampshire Master Chorale and Chamber Orchestra bring this extraordinary yet unconventional work to both traditional and unconventional venues; a church and a parking garage. Yes, a parking garage! Don't worry, there will be all the standard comforts: ample seating, restrooms, intermission refreshments (Red RiverTheatres) and, of course, plenty of parking!
Also featured is Nico Muhly’s setting of Walt Whitman’s “Expecting the Main Things from You” and the world premiere of Jonathan Santore’s “Solstices". Red River’s screening and sing-a-long of Bernstein’s West Side Story follows the performance in Concord. Proceeds from “An Evening with Bernstein” in the Capital Commons Garage will benefit both the New Hampshire Master Chorale and Red River Theatres.
